New Patient Consultation Special

1 hour No-Charge Consultation for New Patients

If you’re living with the constant ringing, buzzing, humming, or pulsing in your ears of tinnitus, you know how exhausting it can be...

It’s there when you wake up.

It’s there in quiet rooms.

It’s there when you’re trying to sleep.

And most people are told the same thing:

You’ll just have to live with it.”

But what if your tinnitus isn’t just an ear issue? What if it’s neurological?

Tinnitus 101

What is Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is when one hears ringing or other noises in one or both of your ears that is not caused by any external sound. Tinnitus is a common problem that affects about 15% to 20% of people, and is especially common in older adults. There are two kinds of tinnitus: Subjective and Objective.

Subjective is the most common and symptoms include: buzzing, roaring, clicking, hissing or humming sounds that only you can hear and they may be constant or recurring.

In rare cases one can have Objective, or Pulsatile, Tinnitus which includes a rhythmic pulsing or whooshing sound, often in time with your heartbeat. If you have pulsatile tinnitus, your doctor may be able to hear your tinnitus when he or she does an examination.

What Causes Tinnitus?

Tinnitus involves irritation or dysregulation within the nervous system — particularly in the brainstem and auditory pathways.

The top two bones in the neck protect and surround the lower brainstem which is the area responsible for:

-Auditory processing

-Balance and spatial awareness

-Blood flow regulation to the head

-Nervous system communication

Even a small misalignment in the upper cervical spine can create stress on the brainstem and surrounding structures responsible for hearing. This can lead to abnormal nerve firing, altered blood flow, and heightened neurological sensitivity. All factors which can contribute to tinnitus.

Why Traditional Approaches Often Fall Short

Common tinnitus treatments often focus on, sound masking devices, medication, and coping strategies. While those can be helpful, these approaches don’t correct structural imbalance.

NUCCA care is different because it focuses on:

✔ Structural correction
✔ Nervous system balance
✔ Long-term stability
✔ Objective monitoring of alignment

The goal isn’t temporary suppression. It’s reducing the underlying stress that may be contributing to the problem.

How Can a NUCCA Doctor Help?

A misaligned spine typically begins with injury to the head or neck but can also be caused by stress, or sudden head movements. While no ethical provider can guarantee tinnitus resolution, addressing structural interference in the upper neck provides a logical and often overlooked pathway for relief. NUCCA (National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association) is a highly specialized, gentle approach that focuses exclusively on the upper cervical spine. So, if your tinnitus began after a car accident, concussion, whiplash, fall, or is due to chronic neck tension, NUCCA may be the solution you've been seeking.

The Science Behind NUCCA

Neurons fire signals from the brain through the spinal cord to help control specific tissues such as muscles or organs. When the neck or spinal cord is injured, or misaligned due to injury or distortion, psychological functions such as blood pressure, immune system defense, and blood and tissue repair can suffer. NUCCA works by providing gentle adjustments to the C1 and C2 bone alignments. When your neck maintains alignment, the nervous system begins to heal.

"Dr. Charlie Ross has been helping me with my hip pain through NUCCA Chiropractic Adjustments, which involve adjusting the top of the neck in a very specific way. As a very active 68-year-old, I want to continue enjoying my golf activities with minimal soreness afterwards. The examination, particularly the x-rays, was very specific and detailed. After a few NUCCA Adjustments, I noticed that my hip pain was gone, I no longer had headaches, and my neck was more mobile. Dr. Ross recommended a very reasonable treatment plan, with the goal of having me come less frequently as the adjustments hold longer. I am very thankful for Dr. Charlie Ross; he is knowledgeable and communicates in a way that you don’t need a Ph.D to understand!"
